Credit Transfer Options

Many of our programs have one or more years in common with other programs, which allows students to easily transfer from one program to another and take advantage of granted equivalencies and dual degrees (e.g., certificate and diploma, or diploma and advanced diploma).

Links between programs allow students to acquire two Collège Boréal degrees while benefiting from equivalencies between programs. Courses have been developed to allow students to open up to more than one field or choose to specialize. Both degrees can be done at once or one after the other.

Recognition awarded for academic level learning related to post-secondary programs.

Programs in which students develop knowledge and skills already acquired in a diploma or an advanced diploma program or which provide undergraduates with specialized knowledge and skills related to a profession or an applied field of study.

A formal agreement between post-secondary institutions, often referred to as an articulation, that specifies how courses completed and credits earned at the home institution will be accepted and applied by the destination institution.

A transfer pathway predefined by a post-secondary institution that applies generally to all institutions offering an identified program. A pathway specifies the manner in which completed courses and credits will be accepted and applied by the destination institution.

In the cases when there exists no formal articulation agreement, it may be possible to transfer credits. Most institutions allow students to request an analysis of their transcripts to see which credits will be recognized. At time of registration, and at the request of the student, the destination institution will assess the student’s file to determine which credits can be awarded for the courses taken at the home institution.

Transfer credits granted when the student has completed courses at one campus and would like to complete the program at another campus or online.

Any other partnership that enables the student to develop an individualized academic pathway to employment and/or skills development, including international exchanges and employer partnerships.

Credits awarded by a post-secondary institution for one or more courses taken at another post-secondary institution.

A bulk credit transfer awards you an exemption for a group of courses completed in another institution. It allows a student to begin the program at an advanced level. To apply, fill out the BAR-029 form.

An equivalency is a credit transfer that applies exclusively to equivalent courses taken within a program offered by Collège Boréal. Equivalencies are automatically recognized during the admission process.

Credits granted to secondary school students for certain eligible courses to be put towards college or apprenticeship courses that count towards a post-secondary certificate, diploma or apprenticeship certificate.

Course-based prior learning recognition (PLR) is the result of an assessment process that analyzes a person’s non-academic skills, gained through work and life experience, to determine how much of it can be converted into academic credits. Examples of experiences eligible for PLR include work experience, volunteering, workshops, conferences, political activities, sports, cultural and social activities, travel, etc.

Full-program prior learning recognition (FPPLR) is the result of a process by which an individual requests an overarching assessment of their prior learning as it relates to the program to which they have been officially admitted. This assessment looks at their work and life experience as well as their educational experience and determines to what extent that experience can be converted into official college credits using transfer credit, equivalencies or course‑by‑course PLR. Please note that a student must have completed a minimum of 25% of a Collège Boréal study program and meet its academic requirements to obtain a certificate or diploma from our institution. Currently, only a few programs are eligible for FPPLR.
