Collège Boréal now provides settlement services in Barrie!

5 May 2022
Known for its broad agricultural plains and its urban areas as well, Simcoe County has a new drawing card for immigrants who are looking for a dynamic community to call home. Collège Boréal now offers a range of settlement services in Simcoe County to assist immigrants in the process of their integration into Canadian society.

With funding from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), Collège Boréal’s Immigration sector has been offering settlement services in central-southwest Ontario for over 15 years. The new Barrie site is the fifth site launched in the past five years, marking a trend in which larger communities are increasing their efforts to attract new citizens through immigration.

Customized assistance

Collège Boréal offers targeted services based on the real needs of immigrants. Settlement workers support newcomers in their search for housing, health care and community services. Moreover, access to skills development and planning for a stable career are facilitated by socio-economic integration navigators. Under their guidance, newcomers develop a personalized integration plan focused on occupational integration. All of these services are offered in both French and English.

Language training for newcomers to minority language communities

In addition to these settlement services now available in Barrie, the Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) program is offered to newcomers at no charge. These French language courses are currently available in a virtual format and they will be offered in person starting in September.

Collège Boréal is proud to contribute to the richness and diversity of our communities by offering personalized services that make the difference between fully successful integration and a more challenging process. We believe in the importance of helping our neighbours as they integrate into the Francophone community and we hope to see them prosper in a career that will draw upon their talents and expertise.
The Government of Canada is committed to ensuring our capacity to attract and retain Francophone immigrants by helping them to settle in the communities and the language of their choice. Therefore, we are pleased to provide funds to Collège Boréal in Simcoe County so that the college can offer French and English language settlement and integration services.
For over 15 years now, Collège Boréal has offered a wide range of programs and services designed especially for immigrants, thanks to the support of its funders. This quality programming aims to allow all newcomers to use their full potential to ensure their accelerated and successful integration in Canada. The expansion of these services in Barrie bolsters our capacity to welcome and retain immigrants in the Simcoe County.
