The Louis-Riel Centre

The Louis-Riel Centre

Located in the heart of the College’s main campus in Sudbury, the Louis-Riel Centre provides Métis and Aboriginal students a vast array of services in a culturally responsive environment conducive to their academic success. The Centre’s objectives are to establish and maintain close relationships with students, to help resolve outstanding issues and be attentive to their needs.

We identify students with learning difficulties and those who are experiencing cultural, social, or financial barriers to their education.

A wide range of services are available to support First Nation students in their postsecondary studies:

  • Dedicated space which promotes the culture and heritage of the Métis and Aboriginal people while offering a number of support services
  • Our aim is to improve the students’ transition into the labour market by taking into account their cultural originality and fostering their participation in the College training programs and employment services
  • Promote the importance of postsecondary studies among native students
  • Help to create a healthy environment that is conducive to learning, and provides a sense of belonging and comfort, a place that celebrates cultural diversity
  • Welcome native students and provide orientation to appropriate services
  • Monitor the students’ progress; develop and implement various strategies for student retention and academic success
  • Provide information on choice of studies and career opportunities
  • Work stations with computers and adaptive software
  • Conference room / place for group work
  • Relaxation area
