Description:

This program gives students the knowledge and skills needed to support veterinarians or other professionals in different veterinary or animal-health industries. Learning experiences take place primarily in the laboratory, radiology rooms, operating and grooming rooms as well as at a kennel. Visits are also organized to breeding and boarding establishments. The workplace internship gives students practical experience to complement the two years of theory. Graduates may sit  for the national exam to obtain the title of registered veterinary technician.

  • $3,146.23 (1st year: 2 semesters -  Sudbury)
  • $4,457.78 (1st year: 3 semesters - Alfred)

Admission requirements:

  • Ontario high school diploma or its equivalent from another province, or mature student status
  • 2 French credits: grade 11 or 12, pre-college or pre-university
  • 1 mathematics credit: grade 11 or 12, pre-college or pre-university
  • 1 chemistry credit: grade 11 or 12, pre-college or pre-university
  • 1 biology credit: grade 11 or 12, pre-college or pre-university

 

Other requirements:

  • Vaccination against hepatitis B (compulsory)
  • Vaccination against rabies (highly recommended)

Candidate profile:

Individuals are required to:

  • Be patient and compassionate with animals
  • Love animals
  • Enjoy working with the public
  • Have manual dexterity
  • Be fit and able to bend/crouch often, spend long hours in operative settings, and lift heavy equipment
  • Be mature, autonomous, and able to work without the need for assistance
  • Be adaptable to a flexible work schedule

     

Possibility of a bachelor’s degree or other title:

Many universities recognize the postsecondary credits of Collège Boréal. Each university has its own admission criteria. After your college studies, the university of your choice will evaluate your credits in order to establish appropriate equivalence.

Notes:

  • The third semester of the Alfred program is taught at the Sudburycampus. The student must travel at his/her own expense.
  • This program is a 2-year program at the Sudburycampus, but is given on a continuous basis (4 consecutive semesters) at the Alfred campus.
  • Some specialized manuals in the Health Sciences are only available in English.  As much as possible, the College will recommend the use of appropriate French-language manuals.
