Description:

This program was developed to meet the specific needs of the Ontario police community. Course content includes crime prevention, laws, and the involvement of the police force in the community. This program was approved by the Ontario Police Learning System Advisory Committee and the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities. It is designed for individuals who wish to pursue a career with a police force.

Admission requirements:

  • Ontario high school diploma or its equivalent from another province, or mature student status
  • 2 French credits (at least 1 mandatory group course): grade 11 or 12, pre-college or pre-university
  • 1 English credit: grade 11 or 12, pre-college or pre-university
     

Recommended courses or other:

  • 1 required mathematics credit :grade 11 or 12, pre-college or pre-university

This program is the first step toward a career with the Ontario police force.

Graduates of this program are better prepared to apply for a job on the police force.

Note:

  • The first year's courses (semesters 1 and 2) of the Law and Security Administration, Correctional Services Worker and Police Foundations programs (Administration de la loi et de la sécurité, Techniques de réadaptation et de justice pénale ainsi que Techniques des services policiers) are the same
  • This program has physical fitness requirements
  • It is essential to be able to communicate orally and in writing in both French and English. Although the college favours the use of French learning tools, some material is only available in English
  • The Ontario Police Services Act stipulates that candidates must meet certain criteria, including:
    • Health check
    • Appropriate height/weight ratio (body mass index BMI)
    • Vision and hearing requirements
    • Is at least 18 years old
    • Is a citizen or permanent resident of Canada
    • Has a good character
    • Is physically and mentally fit to practice functions of the position, taking into account your personal safety and that of the general public
    • Has never been found guilty of a criminal offence for which a pardon was not granted
    • Is not the subject of a charge currently before the courts
