Description:

This program prepares the student to provide care that meets the physical and emotional needs of individuals in long-term care facilities (retirement homes) and those receiving home care.

Admission requirements:

  • Ontario high school diploma or its equivalent from another province, or mature student status
  • 1 French credit: grade 11 or 12, pre-college or pre-university
  • 1 English credit: grade 11 or 12, pre-college or pre-university


Other requirements:

  • The student must be in good physical condition and be able to lift considerable weights
  • Current immunizations (including 2-step tuberculin test )
  • Police clearance (criminal record check) to meet the requirements of clinical organizations
  • Standard first aid certificate (before start of clinical internships*)
  • First aid certificate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation CPR (before start of clinical internships*)

* First aid and CPR courses are offered several times throughout the college session by the Adult and Continuing Education Service of Collège Boréal.

Note:

  • It is essential to be able to communicate orally and in writing in both French and English during clinical internships.Furthermore, most specialized Health Sciences textbooks are only available in English. The Collège favours the use of French textbooks appropriate to the study program wherever possible.
  • The student may be required to travel outside the region for clinical internships.
