Description:

This program gives the student the skills required to work in a correctional facility such as a penitentiary, reform school, jail and others. The program provides an overview of Canadian laws governing this sector as well as a thorough analysis of human rights legislation. Content includes management of leisure activities in the correctional environment and selected physical and psychological intervention techniques.

Admission requirements:

  • Ontario high school diploma or its equivalent from another province, or mature student status
  • 2 French credits (at least 1 mandatory group course): grade 11 or 12, pre-college or pre-university
  • 1 English credit: grade 11 or 12, pre-college or pre-university

Joint program:

Graduates of this program may continue their university studies and receive credit transfers for their college courses. Collège Boréal has an agreement with Laurentian University, among others, which allows graduates of Collège Boréal to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Law and Justice.

  • The first year's courses (semesters 1 and 2) of the Law and Security Administration, Correctional Services Worker and Police Foundations programs (Administration de
    la loi et de la sécurité, Techniques de réadaptation et de justice pénale, Techniques des services policiers) are the same.
  • Some organizations require a background check and proof of immunization at the student’s expense. It is the student's responsibility to submit these documents to the organization before the beginning of the internship
  • This program has physical fitness requirements
  • The student will probably need to communicate in French and English during the internships. Additionally, it should be noted that while the college favours the use of French learning tools, some material is only available in English.
