Description:

Collège Boréal and Laurentian University offer a joint Bachelor of Science - Nursing (Baccalauréat en sciences infirmières (B.Sc.Inf.). This program is based on a humanistic and scientific approach to meet the health needs of individuals, families, and communities. The fundamental concept of “caring” is based on a value system focused on the promotion of health to maintain and preserve human dignity.

This program includes theoretical, practical, and free elective courses which examine changes in the healthcare field on the local, provincial, national and international levels.

The student will do internships with various organizations and health services as a partner in the promotion of health.  The graduate may then sit for the certification examinations for this profession, administered by the Ontario College of Nurses.

Nursing graduates of this program must maintain  their competency level and must value personal and professional growth.

Tuition fees (approx.):

30 credits - $5,490 (1st year; as established by Laurentian University)

Other fees (certificate, field activities, etc.):

$1, 500 - $2,000 (approximate: includes WHMIS, CPR, First Aid, immunizations, criminal record check, uniforms and shoes, stethoscope, parking fees for clinics)

Admission requirements:

Ontario high school diploma, including six classes in the pre-university branch, including:

  • 1 grade 12 4U biology course
  • 1 grade 12 4U chemistry course
  • 1 grade 12  4U French course
  • 3 other grade 12 4U/M courses
  • grade average of at least 70%
  • the candidate must write and communicate orally in English, as many clinical environments are English-speaking


Other requirements:

  • First-aid certificate*
  • Basic life support certificate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation CPR*
  • Updated immunizations (including a 2-step tuberculin test)
  • Criminal record check to meet the requirements of clinical internships

* First-aid and CPR courses are offered several times throughout the college session by the Adult and Continuing Education Service of Collège Boréal..

Some graduates choose to teach nursing care or take a management position in the field. Students may also participate in research projects and continue their studies in order to specialize or obtain a Master's degree and, eventually, a PhD.

  • This program is offered in cooperation with Laurentian University. The first year of the program is held at Collège Boréal and the Sudbury Campus. The following three years are held at Laurentian University and in Sudbury.
